My mother had never mentioned this gruesome event. And having not seen or heard from my father in over 30 years he was never around to provide advice backed by a real life experience.
When attempting to view Sickbeard I was greeted with the following error:
The PC that Sickbeard is running on was recently updated automatically with Windows Updates. I don’t know for sure but, I suspect the updates required a reboot which did not cleanly shut down Sickbeard, corrupting the database.
Fortunately, the fix is simple. Sickbeard automatically keeps backup copies of the database. All that is needed is to replace the current database with the most recent backup.
First, shutdown Sickbeard and Sabnzbd (or equivalent). Using Task Manager kill the process Sickbeard.exe:
Shutdown Sabnzbd using the webpage as usual. Then in Windows Explorer rename the Sickbeard database sickbeard.db to sickbeard.db.bak. Then copy the backup file sickbeard.db.v18 and rename the backup copy to sickbeard.db:
Restart Sickbeard and view the Sickbeard home page. One problem that will need addressing is the database will not have the shows that Sickbeard has downloaded since the backup was made. This is why Sabnzbd was stopped earlier – to prevent Sickbeard from re-downloading shows.
In Sickbeard go to Manage and select Mass Update. This is the page where you can perform the same task on all shows at once. Click the checkbox Rescan in the header. The checkbox will become checked for all shows. Then scroll down and click Submit at the bottom.
Sickbeard will now scan the disk for shows and add the missing information for shows already downloaded. After several minutes (depending on how many shows you have) you can restart Sabnzbd. I watch the log in Sickbeard to know when to restart Sabnzbd.
Back in 2009 I snapped this picture of two loaves of bread in my refrigerator showing how whole-wheat bread contained more grams of whole grains that “whole-grain” bread.
Incidentally, look how good this picture came out. Just proves how good the lighting is in grocery stores.
